Creative Movement

Ages 3-4 yrs old
Creative Movement is a joyful way for children to explore movement through music, develop physical skills, channel energy, stimulate imagination and promote creativity. Creative movement uses body actions to: communicate an image (the wind), communicate an idea (a journey) or communicate a feeling (strength).
Creative Movement provides children with opportunities for non-competitive, and creative experiences.
Through movement, children learn about their bodies, the space around them, and each other. Creative movement activities should encourage all children to participate. Both boys and girls enjoy these classes. All children can benefit, including children with communication, sensory, developmental or physical challenges.

Lyrical/Contemporary

Lyrical/Contemporary is a dance style that embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics, and modern dance. The style combines ballet technique with the freedom and musicality of jazz and contemporary. These styles of dance are “strongly associated with clearly displayed emotional moods, fast-moving choreographic strategies, emphasis on virtuosic display, illustration of song lyrics, and, in group form, exact unison”. The style is usually danced at a faster pace than ballet but not as fast as jazz.

Ballet

Ballet is a classical dance form that originated in the 1500s. Students begin at the barre, progress to the center, and culminate with traveling exercises across the floor. Terminology, alignment, balance, artistry, sequencing, and pushing through space are emphasized at each level. Ballet training is essential to a dancer's progress. It teaches and improves coordination, flexibility and musicality, as well as develops and strengthens the muscles. Ballet class consists of barre and center work.

Jazz

Jazz dance evolved from various styles, including tap and swing dancing. It continues to develop with new movements complementing popular music, retaining its high energy while emphasizing rhythm through purposeful movement. At Destined To Dance Academy, our jazz class consists of a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations within these styles, helping our dancers develop flexibility and improve their overall performance quality. Jazz fuses together technique and style, with a focus on stage presence.

Acro

Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context. It is a popular dance style in amateur competitive dance as well as in professional dance theater and in contemporary circus productions such as those by Cirque du Soleil.

Hip Hop

Hip hop dance is a range of street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture. It is influenced by a wide range of styles that were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States. The television show Soul Train and the 1980s films Breakin', Beat Street, and Wild Style showcased these crews and dance styles in their early stages; therefore, giving hip-hop dance mainstream exposure.

Tap

Technique, musicality, rhythm and coordination are all focused on in tap class. Students are introduced to tap steps ranging from beginning to the most complex, and apply the learned material during a warm up, center floor and combinations.
